NANO-ORTHOPAEDICS

BONE  REGENERATION, STRENGTH  &  INFECTION MITIGATION

STATUS QUO

Most orthopaedic implants, though thought to be favourably inert, are essentially, physiochemically inactive and hence not symbiotic with the biological environment they are placed in. Implant surfaces need to be designed to blend in a more biocompatible manner, mimicing the necessary functional features of the designated physiological location.

QUANTUM PHASE ORTHOPAEDICS

Nanomaterials are proposed for next generation orthopaedic implants, for the creation of surface environments that are more conducive for osteoblast function. Bone substitute nanomaterials whose composition can emulate the hierarchic organization of natural bone, initiate a platform desirable for the formation of an apatite layer. Post-surgical infection rates could be reduced by the use of nano-fibrous membrane wound dressings, functionalized with antibacterial properties provided by biocompatible nanomaterials.

The most notable application of nanotechnology in orthopaedics entails that of drug delivery and nano-therapeutics, to support the treatment of ailments such as bone cancer and arthritis. With evolving research and nanomaterial development methods, nanotechnology is poised to play a useful role, in the orthopaedic domain.

OUR MATERIAL SYSTEMS

NANOARC offers high performance atomically-architectured quantum material powders, for integration within bone and dental implant composite systems. The quantum powders are designed to improve the interaction between implants and bone tissue at atomic scale, while also, supporting the proliferation of osteoblast cells, to aid the bone healing processes.

The quantum powders can either be implemented as composite additives or integral parts of 3D printed orthopaedic implants.

Essentially, high surface area leads to an increase in the overall performance, thus lowering the necessary dose, to deliver the designated functionality.

HOW TO USE ORTHO-Q NANOPOWDERS

I. Mix the nanopowder(s) at the desired dose(s) with your implant composite material and proceed as usual

II. As a coating on the implant surface in the finishing phase to provide antimicrobial protection and to promote bone growth

III. Use as both an integral part of the implant composite in addition to a coating. This approach provides additional protection if the coating on the implant scratches or wears off.
