Our skin is the soft outer covering of our bodies, the largest organ of the integumentary system - so to say, it is the largest amongst the group of organs designated at protecting our body from various manners of damage. It serves as a cushion, protector of deeper tissues, water loss (dehydration), temperature regulation and excretes waste. Like the roof of a home, it is the shelter of our bodies. 


Fragrances are highly toxic, commonly containing phthalates, which are chemicals that help the scents last longer.  Fragrance chemicals, like other toxic chemicals, can pass from the skin and into the blood.

Cosmetic and fragrance industry giants are heavily investing in nanotechnological research, to achieve further leaps in the way perfumes and related products are produced and applied. 

The challenge lies in achieving a safer fragrance preservation strategy, with a natural take on aroma-enhancement, whilst providing proper skin protection in fragrances and associated creams or cosmetic products.

To value the nature of our offering, first, it is important to understand the role of nanotechnology in fragrance improvement, in order to filter out the actual needs of a fragrance manufacturer.


1. Sustained AROMA


Fragrances commonly contain phthalates, which help the scents last longer. Fragrance chemicals, like other toxic chemicals, can pass from the skin and into the blood. 


Nano-encapsulation (nanodelivery systems) involves coating of nanomaterials with different substances, so as to help progress the attributes and performance (durability, stability) of substances such as fragrances that can be negatively affected by changed conditions of the environment (e.g. light and air). The use of nanoencapsulation in fragrance products helps more efficient (prolonged) and time- controlled release of the scents. 


Most nanomaterials sold on the market, have a low specific surface area, which creates a need for higher nanomaterial doses to achieve the encapsulation of a substantial amount of fragrance molecules. This affactes the ability of the fragrance to achieve appreciable  time-controlled release and stability, and delivers a turbid unsightly fragrance appearance.

To resolve this, a high surface area quantum material is needed, to enable a larger containment of fragrance molecules, stabilise them in light and air, and use the quantum material at low doses, so as not to need a high dosage, that may affect the clarity, transparency and appearance of the fragrance. 


The release of bad odour neutralising scents can be time-controlled by stimuli such as diffusion, pressure, or temperature sensitivity. 



2. MinimisED Fragrance Toxicity:


A nano-encapsulation procedure using high surface area quantum materials with a larger particle size to minimise particulate skin penetration for safer usage, can be adopted in conjunction with the use of natural enzymes in the process of manufacturing expensive perfume compounds. There are hence no unwanted or harmful residual substances and the fragrance pleasantness is lasting.
